STERN & KREIS
Discover Berlin from the water! To operate this advertising slogan of the ship-owning company, Stern & Kreis, the term "environmentally friendly" should be possible again.(1) The senate of Berlin will support the target goals of the Clean Air Act to reduce PM emissions of river barges. Particulate filter systems installed on these barges should be field-tested beforehand. The Senate brought together the market leader of cruising, Stern & Kreis, three suppliers of particulate filters (beneath HUSS) and the TÜV Hessen for measurement techniques. HUSS in its self conception as a pioneer always uses possibilities to demonstrate its technologies on new applications.
HUSS retrofitted the “MS Friedrichshain“(2), powered by a MAN D2866LXE40 (3) 2005 engine with 254 hp. An active solution without engine shut-down could, therefore, be offered (the MD-system).
During the installation of the MD 200 (4)(5) HUSS service technician, Christian Großklaus, fitted the system with a Y-pipe for the by-pass tube. In the C module the by-pass leads again into the normal exhaust gas flow. (6)
The steering device ECU for the Diesel post injection and the one for the bypass flap was integrated. (7)
HUSS engineer, Simone Stribl, and service technician, Christian Linke, did the upload of the software and the configuration of the MD-system during a test run. (8)
The cruise season may begin!
Let's hope for more retrofitted river barges.
