HUSS Group Magazine On-Line 12/2011
Dear Reader,
Its five minutes to midnight – at least for the London low emission zone (LEZ), the European currency and the enduring discussion about the debts cap in the USA. Let's talk about something more positive and therefore let's focus on the London LEZ. In contrast to other European approaches to cleaner air in urban areas, the Transport for London authority (TfL) takes its gloves off. The LEZ will become effective from the beginning of January next year – no mercy. Of course everybody waited for the last minute in order to make a retrofit decision. Latest information show that still 80% of the vehicles are not in compliance yet, which means a lot of work in December and the first month of 2012.
A new product line of HUSS, especially for stationary power generators in buildings up to 2 Megawatts, is giving its debut. The design is easy but differs a lot from other applications in the off-road and heavy-duty business. We needed to learn a lot about the specific requirements in the building industry and have adopted all this to the development of the new product line. In the future more regulations will be in place for these kinds of engines, due to the fact that they are mainly operated in cities.
HUSS is one of the oldest brands in the emission business. Our roots date back to the 1920s and the first diesel particulate filter was brought into market in 1985 – almost 30 years ago. You have the opportunity to get to know one of these dinosaur products still in operation that we lovingly call – Snow White's coffin or pizza oven. Being one of the industry leaders in emission products it is an obligation to offer certified products. One of the most rigid and most established European standards is the Swiss VERT. It was an honor for us to support the development of VERT by delegating Dr. Hans-Jörg Rembor, Managing Director and Head of Technology of HUSS, into the Board of Directors. An interview with him tells about his motivation and the future of that high industry standard.
Enjoy Reading!
Yours Sincerely, Thomas Rahn,
HUSS Group CEO.

Dr. Hans-Jörg Rembor and his engagement at VERT
"Our goal at VERT is not to loose this pioneer role and, indeed, the standard is pushing member companies to reach these high demands. That is what unifies the companies at VERT or at least how we see it at HUSS: to reach the highest quality."
